PlayStation 3

November 24, 2006

It’s amazing how far people will go for one of these.

Literally.

I know people from England that flew over to Japan to get one on release day – and not even come back with one because there wasn’t enough stock.

This is just crazy.  Now I’m not going to slate people for flying out just to get a PS3 on the first day of release – in all honesty, if I had the time and money, I probably would too – but going all that way for nothing is heartbreaking, unfair and unnecessary.

Sony will have recognised that demand is beyond high for these consoles – releasing only 100,000 is not going to be sufficient.  This is release day, not “come-and-queue-for-hours-and-you-might-end-up-with-one” day.

I’ve heard all sorts of stories from that day; people being killed, seriously injured – all sorts.  And the shame is, in 5 years time, they’ll probably be giving them away.

Just goes to show you that the early bird doesn’t always get the PS3.

Sales-people

November 20, 2006

Picture this.

You’re shopping in a department store.  You’re not there for anything in particular; just a little look around in your own time.  When suddenly, at the end of an aisle, you spot a woman dressed smartly holding a set of brochures and wearing a big badge that says “I want to help you”.  You know what that means.  Attack of the Advertiser.  There’s no escaping them.  Once they’ve started talking to you about a product, you have to buy it to shut them up.

I was shopping today, and it happened to me.  Down the end of the aisle was a man with a badge and a clipboard.  He caught my eye.  He started coming over.  I turned the other way.  It was like hide and seek.

I heard a voice behind me.  “Would you like any help?”.  “No thank you, I’m just looking” I replied.  I walked quickly out of the aisle and straight into another smiling sales assistant.  “Can I interest you in this?”, she said.  I was trapped.

Fortunately, I got out of the shop before dark.

Fame: The Musical

November 11, 2006

I’m still working hard at my Saturday drama workshops and it’s just been announced today that casting has actually been going on since day one!  The teachers have been assessing us and will continue to do so until the day before Christmas, when we find out our parts in Fame: The Musical, or if we have to audition.

I’m going for the lead role, which is apparently equal between characters Carmen and Serena.  I’d love to sing the beautiful song, Out Here On My Own, as a solo – it means the world to me to get the lead.  I really am working hard – last night, I spent 3 and a half hours learning Hungarian so I could sing it fluently in our practise performance of Chicago’s ‘Cell Block Tango’.

The performance is going to be on the 7th July 2007 – be there or be square!

Three words = We Were Robbed.

York City played fantastically against the higher division 1 team, Bristol City and were robbed of three or four good goals. The first half just glowed talent from rising star, Clayton Donaldson, and his fancy footwork almost got York City a good, early goal; but a little bit of bad luck and a lot of bad judgement from the ref cost the game for the York players.

I couldn’t stop screaming throughout the whole match. I know I always get right into football, but this one really got me sucked in; I shouted for my team everytime the players came anywhere near our seats and I booed at every unfair decision from the officials (and there were a lot).

I know everyone’s biased towards the team they support – naturally – but York City deserved the success this time. And I can confidently say that every other YC fan watching or listening would agree with me. And possibly some few – honest – Bristol fans too.

Man of the Match, Steve Bowey, deserved the award as the most daring player to say the least. He got right into the game and gave York City fans hope right to the last minute of extra time. Excluding the odd few dodgy mistakes, YC did themselves and their fans proud.

The future’s looking bright, lads!

Garble

November 10, 2006

I haven’t got anything specific to talk about, but there are some odd comments I feel like making.

First of all; have you heard Jamiroquai’s new single?  It’s absolute genius, I love it.  If you haven’t yet heard it, check it out on YouTube.  Video’s a corker too.

Secondly, a reminder about the Regional Finals Line Dance competition coming up in March 2007 – if you live in my hometown, you must come!  It’ll be brilliant and I’m competing there this time too, so I need the support!

Last but not least, Ollie and I are starting a new line dance class at the school for sixth formers only!  However, if you’re a pupil at the school, you’re welcome to come and watch.  It’s for sixth formers wanting another Intergrated Study; Ollie and I are promoting line dancing for it!

I’ve been switched off to the technology world recently what with having so many new ventures in dance and performing – I know when I get back into my tech, I’ll have loads of catching up to do, so any comments you could leave me, updating me on the goings-on would be much appreciated! =)
